Personality Disorders

When a person has a personality disorder, this usually signifies the fact that his/her mental development once went in the wrong direction and continues doing so if compared with people with more stable (positive) personality traits. There are several types of personality disorders, each of them is characterized by special common traits.
The first group of personality disorders is connected with such signs as fear, social isolation, anxiety and dependence. It contains the following personality disorders: dependent personality, avoidant personality, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. For example, a person with dependent personality disorder is afraid of being alone, is very dependent on others and their opinion and is strongly reluctant to express (have) his/her own point of view.
The second group of personality disorders makes up the following: narcissistic, antisocial, borderline and histrionic personality disorders. Their common feature is extra theatrical attitude and feelings – extra emotionality and its expression in one's behaviour. For instance, people with borderline personality disorder are often hyper-emotional, masochistic (mentally, physically or both), relationships characterized by violent actions, changes of emotional condition, feeling of general inner void.
The third group of personality disorders is based on various deviations from behaviour of a normal person. They are schizoid, paranoid and schizotypal personality disorders. For example, people with schizotypal personality disorders think that their words convey globally special message to others, awkward ways in clothes, communication, behaviour. Sometimes a person's personality is characterized by a mix of several personality disorders.
